I recently announced my pregnancy publicly, therefore you’re going to be getting a lot of blogging around, well pregnant people things. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Being pregnant is an amazing time for many but it’s also a very restrictive time full of No’s and don’t eat that’s which makes it challenging to eat sometimes. I love that pregnancy can help make you be your best self, health wise, but what about when I want to eat like my not so pregnant self? Cue the sandwich craving. 🫣

Deli meat is one of the off limits foods when you are pregnant, due to the risk of listeria from cold cut deli meat and other similar meats and cheeses. I understand deli meats are also full of saturated fats and sodium. Some experts say you can eat deli meat if it’s been cooked and steaming hot to 165° F and higher to kill the potential bacteria. I personally just don’t want to risk it, I’ve been through a lot to get to this point in my pregnancy after many losses, so I’m avoiding certain known dangers at all cost. I eat sandwiches sparingly, so when I want one, it’s because I REALLY want one!

Since around 10-ish weeks of pregnancy I’ve been craving a sandwich and particularly one that my partner makes (delicious!) as well as two others from my favorite sandwich shops, A chipotle so Gouda at Deli Belly (seems like an appropriate shop name for a pregnant person, but I can’t eat it 😩) and the Gourmet Bagger which has a Turkey Pesto that is to die for, plus all their sandwiches come with a free chocolate chip cookie, it’s the best damn cookie I’ve ever had. Secret - I sometimes go there just to buy the cookies! 🤫

Obviously, you can tell I like my sandwiches. My cousin who is 1 week behind me in her pregnancy, we often text about our sandwich cravings…🥪

🤓This prompted me to come up with a little sandwich menu that we CAN eat! I felt compelled to share this on my blog for others who may be pregnant and in desperate need of a delicious sub.

  1. Philly cheesesteak

  2. Bahn Mi (make sure the meat is cooked well)

  3. Chicken salad sandwich ( I like on squaw or other brown bread)

  4. Ceasar salad lettuce wrap (if you want to reduce carbs)

  5. BLT (bacon, lettuce, tomato, simple!)

  6. Meatball sandwich

  7. Chicken avocado melt @ Panera

  8. Rainbow Veggie Sandwich (vegetarian or vegan)

💕🤰🏾Try these for your next pregnancy sandwich craving, hope it hits the spot! See below for pics and links.

Best Philly I had in Philly! Right inside my Hilton hotel in downtown above Reading Terminal. Google or Pinterest for recipes to make at home or look for one in your local area.

Bahn Mi from Cali Baguette express in San Diego, google or Pinterest for recipes to make at home or look for one in your local area.

Chicken salad sandwich (I like it on a brown bread or squaw bread and sometimes I add plain potato chips to it for more crunch! Additionally some pickled red onions or bread and butter pickles are nice too)

Chicken Cesar salad wrap (looking for less carbs? Try this one! If desired, omit the croutons and go easy on the dressing and cheese to reduce carb, calorie, fat and sodium. Also, be sure to use pasteurized ceaser dressing to avoid potential bacteria from the egg yolks used to make this dressing)

BLT (bacon, lettuce, tomato)

Meatball Sandwich

Chicken avocado melt Panera

Rainbow Veggie Sandwich (I didn’t forget about my vegetarian & vegan friends!)

Enjoy that sandwich! Happy eating!
